What you eat says who you are. What you throw away, even more
The collaboration between ENVIRON and NOUA – New Romanian Cuisine began with a simple question: We know what we put on our plate. But do we know what we leave behind? Sustainability means daily choices, small gestures, and care for our unseen impact. Just as we care about what we eat, we should also care about what we take out of our homes.
In 2025, we joined the ‘Romania on the Plate’ caravan initiated by Chef Alex Petricean and the NOUA – New Romanian Cuisine team, because we share the same respect for origin, nature, and work done with intention.
What we throw away is just as important as what we eat. Because if we don’t take care of what we leave behind, waste may end up in the very places we treasure: nature, soil, and our plate.
Together we created a symbolic image: a dish composed not of edible ingredients, but of discarded electronic equipment.
If we don’t take care of what we throw away, what will eventually come back to us? Just as we choose a ripe tomato at the market or a wine with a story, we can also choose not to ignore a broken phone or a cable forgotten in a drawer. What we choose to use – and above all, what we leave behind – says who we are.
What you eat says who you are. What you throw away says even more.
- Why do we keep an old phone in a drawer?
- Where does a cable end up when thrown in the wrong bin?
- And how can we turn responsibility into a gesture as natural as choosing a local ingredient?
